5 Things Patients Need to Hear Right Now

by PatientPoint

With COVID-19 information and recommendations changing by the minute, patients need trusted, meaningful and timely education to help them live their healthiest lives.

While a patient may have proper handwashing and social distancing down pat at this point, they may know less about the importance of maintaining regular vaccinations. Or perhaps a patient may need some extra reassurance about the steps their provider is taking to keep them safe as they seek care for a chronic condition.

Now more than ever it is imperative that patients continue to manage their health and feel safe about going to their doctor.

Here are five messages patients need to be hearing from their healthcare provider right now:

1. Your Healthcare Facility Is Safe and Ready for You

Healthcare providers should be constantly reminding patients about the steps they’re taking to keep their facility safe and ready for care—and why patients should feel confident about their visit.

A female physician with scrubs and a white coat stands and looks at the camera. The phrase "taking all necessary precautions when taking care of you" is displayed on the screen.

2. Continue to Treat Chronic Conditions

Chronic conditions didn’t stop during COVID-19, and neither should their care.

Remind patients of the importance of regular visits for chronic conditions such as heart failure, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis to maintain optimal health.

A young man stands and looks at the camera while text on screen appears that says "It's important to keep treating your chronic condition during the COVID-19 outbreak."

3. Get Quick Care When You Need It

Acute issues such as heart attack and stroke are still occurring, and every moment counts when it comes to response time.

Urge patients not to delay care for these urgent issues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Text on screen that says "Act quickly to get the treatment you need." The text appears that appears over a cross to indicate medical care.

4. Stay Up to Date on Vaccines and Screenings

Fewer patients have been keeping up with routine vaccines and important screenings for cancer and other serious medical conditions during COVID-19.

Encourage patients to get caught up while reassuring them that their safety is a top priority.

A young female doctor puts a face mask on. Text on screen over the image says "Make an appointment to get caught up."

5. Remain Vigilant

While COVID-19 may not have impacted a patient’s daily life, everyone needs to do their part to control the virus until a vaccine is available.

Remind patients how wearing a mask in public, proper handwashing and social distancing are all effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19.
